John W Hudson, DDS, FACS
J. W. Hudson DDS is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center Knoxville where he has been practicing and teaching devoting his whole professional career to academics since 1981. He was Program Director for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical from 1986 to 2002 where he had the opportunity to train and educate 20 remarkable OMS Residents. Dr. Hudson is a graduate of the University of Tennessee School Of Dentistry and received his certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and served as a Board Examiner for 7 years. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Having started the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1985 for comprehensive treatment of osteomyelitis and osteoradionecrosis of the bimaxillary complex, he was 1 of 12 authors asked to write an article for the 75th anniversary publication of JOMS on the changes in OMS healthcare with his assigned topic being osteomyelitis of the jaws. Dr. Hudson has written or co-written 40 refereed articles, 11 book chapters, and 3 books.
Dr. Hudson was awarded the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Educator of the Year in 2012 and received the AAOMS William J Gies Foundation Award in 2015. A special moment was delivering the Philip Maloney Endowed Trauma Lecture on Soft Tissue Rehabilitation during the AAOMS 2008 meeting in Toronto. In service, Dr. Hudson previously served 5 years as the RRC representative to CRET and served on the CCEPD as a Consultant for 13 years. He is married to Kelly Hudson, who served and Chairman of The Oral and Maxillofacial Foundation Alliance in 2016.
