Mina D. Fahmy, BSc, DDS is currently a Resident Physician in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Mina was born and raised in Alberta, Canada where he played copetitive soccer and volleyball. Mina graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (Distinction) from the University of Alberta majoring in neuroscience and obtaining a minor in criminal justice. While in college Mina was chosen to travel with the Flying Doctors of Canda for medical missionary work in El Salvador where he helped to build homes as well as educate patients. He also secured both local and national grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to complete research in experimental surgery with the department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Alberta. Following his passion for dentistry he later attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry in Milwaukee graduating summa cum laude. While in Dental School, Mina was inducted in into the Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society as well as the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society. In addition, he was awarded the Academy of Osseointegration Award, the Quintessence Publishing Award, and was the recipient of the Student Clinician-American Dental Association/ Dentsply Research Scholarship. In addition, upon graduating Mina received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award recognizing outstanding and dedicated service to the profession. Mina's research interests include tissue engineering and preservation, 3D printing, biomaterials, and maxillofacial oncology. His current research focus involves human papilloma virus (HPV) and head/neck oncology as well as postoperative pain management using multimodal non opioid drugs.
