This session will identify the physical occupational health hazards of oral and maxillofacial surgeons by presenting data of incidence of musculoskeletal disorders. Ergonomic principles and occupational health strategies specific to oral surgery will be presented. Targeted fitness strategies to combat common musculoskeletal disorders will be demonstrated with emphasis on audience participation. The session will conclude with a presentation of a scientific paper submitted for publication, "Preventing Work-Related Musculoskeletal Injuries among Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons: A Pilot Study."

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

Identify common musculoskeletal disorders in oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Integrate proper ergonomic principles into the practice.
Demonstrate performing specific functional movements and fitness strategies to combat musculoskeletal problems.
