Meet Siena - she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and needed to be placed on a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) in June 2022 to help her heart pump blood through her body and vital organs while waiting for a heart transplant. Last May, she received the gift of life, and we're thrilled to share she is doing great today! She loves playing the viola and participating in her school's drama club. The 14-year-old is also on the honor roll and was inducted into the Junior National Honor Society. Way to go, Siena! #DonateLifeMonth #NationalPediatricTransplantWeek

On #WorldHemophiliaDay, we'd like you to meet the Ward family. Both of Melody’s sons, Jadon and Roan, were born with hemophilia, an inherited bleeding disorder that prevents blood from clotting properly. The disease runs in Melody's family, going back at least five generations. Our Hemostasis and Thrombosis Center treated and cared for Melody's father and uncles decades ago and currently treats Melody's sons today. But while Melody's father and uncles all had a poor prognosis, that has changed drastically for her sons, thanks to advances in research and therapy. Read more about the family's health journey in this @phillyinquirer article, and learn how there's more hope for families like them with new gene therapies available.
