Our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month Celebration was a vibrant event, filled with activities including a drum circle and delicious food! At #RadyChildrens, we're proud to say that approximately 18% of our team identifies as Asian American or Pacific Islander descent. This month & beyond, we're excited to highlight our CIRCLE (Connection, Inspiration, Respect, Community, Leadership, Empowerment) Team Resource Group — an employee-led group dedicated to recognizing, celebrating, and advancing our AANHPI workforce, patients, and communities.💙

Meet Maverick, aka "Mavey"! 👋 This 1-year-old champ has battled health challenges since birth, including RSV infections and a heart defect. But his mom, Catherine, wouldn't give up! She found Rady Children's Hospital's #3-ranked Heart Institute and Dr. Howaida El-Said, a top pediatric cardiologist. Dr. El-Said used cutting-edge technology to fix Mavey's heart defect with minimal radiation exposure at the first-of-its-kind Dickinson Image-Guided Intervention Center. Today, Mavey is thriving. 👏 “Mavey’s journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit & the power of exceptional pediatric care,” reflects Dr. El-Said. “His case highlights the importance of timely intervention and collaborative teamwork in overcoming complex cardiac conditions.” 🫀 Learn more about Mavey's journey ➡️ https://rchsd.co/4bl7C8E

At #RadyChildrens, our "Top Docs" are a key reason we consistently rank among the nation's leading children's hospitals. 🌟 But what truly defines an excellent doctor? We asked our very own Dr. Michael Kelly, Director of Scoliosis & Spinal Deformities & Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at UC San Diego, to share his insights. ⬇️ "As a surgeon, it is assumed that technical excellence has been achieved. A truly excellent doctor understands the patient's preferences & fears and can help with decision-making for this profoundly important choice, combining empathy with their education & experience."
