Dr. Vikas Gupta, Pharm.D., BCPS is currently Director of Clinical Strategy for BD Insights Research & Analytics. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy in 1989 and completed a residency in general clinical pharmacy practice from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in 1990. He joined Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) and legacy companies in 1996 after working for several years as a clinical pharmacist in internal medicine and HIV Clinic at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy in Chicago. Dr. Gupta has also been Clinical Pharmacy Manager at different hospitals and has built pharmacy formularies and developed/managed antimicrobial stewardship programs in both academic and non-academic settings. He was the lead clinical pharmacist in development of the BD Antimicrobial Stewardship Surveillance solutions. He now leads clinical research on antimicrobial use/resistance and related outcomes using the electronically available data in a national dataset of BD facilities. He has also collaborated with the CDC DHQP team on several projects/publications and was the lead investigator on the CDC SHEPheRD contract for “RFTOP Number: 2015-009 - Accelerating hospital reporting to NHSN’s Antibiotic Use Option”. Dr. Gupta now leads the BD Insights Research & Analytics efforts to collaborate with companies to study and better understand population-based outcomes/metrics related to pathogen prevalence, antimicrobial use/resistance, and related outcomes. Dr. Gupta has published extensively in the antimicrobial resistance space and has been a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) since 1993.
