Dr. Pavel Prusakov is a board certified academic neonatal ICU (NICU) clinical pharmacist and coordinator of clinical care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, and additional 5 NICUs in Columbus, OH. Dr. Prusakov has led NICU specific antibiotic stewardship programs and implemented several initiatives within Columbus to include: reduction of vancomycin use, reduction of unnecessary antibiotics for urinary tract infections in the ICU, mandatory 48-hour antibiotic time-out for late onset sepsis period, 24-hour time-out for early onset sepsis period, implementation of treatment duration guidelines, and prospective antimicrobial review notes in the medical record. Since implementation of these interventions, neonatology department has reduced antibiotic use by more than 30 percent. Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s NICU antibiotic use is one of the lowest nationally based on metrics from The Children’s Hospital Association. Dr. Prusakov is the recipient of 2017 Race Against Resistance Scholarship from the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. He received his PharmD and BS in medicinal chemistry and molecular pharmacology from Purdue University. He completed pediatric residency training at University of Chicago before coming to Nationwide Children’s Hospital
