Infectious Diseases Physician

Dr Gabrielle Haeusler is a paediatrician and infectious diseases physician with a special interest in infection prevention and management in patients with cancer. She is a post-doctoral researcher with the National Centre for Infections in Cancer (NCIC) and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and has clinical appointments at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service (PICS), Melbourne, Australia. Gabrielle’s PhD, which has optimised the management of fever and neutropenia (FN) in children with cancer in Australia, was awarded a Victorian Premiers Health Services Research and the University of Melbourne Chancellors prize. She is currently leading a national study to implement and evaluate a low-risk FN program across all paediatric cancer centres in Australia. This program has also been adapted for use across multiple paediatric centres in the United Kingdom. In addition to her implementation work, Gabrielle is also overseeing a multisite study of invasive fungal infections in children with high-risk haematological malignancies which will inform national surveillance and prophylaxis strategies.
