Naomi E. Aronson M.D.
Naomi is Professor of Medicine and Director, Infectious Diseases Division at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda MD. She is an attending physician at Walter Reed National Military Medical School. She led the military leishmaniasis treatment center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for a decade, including during a time when an epidemic of cutaneous leishmaniasis occurred early in Operation Iraqi Freedom with at times up to 100 patients a day receiving treatment. She has conducted multiple clinical trials related to the diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis, and her laboratory has investigated immune responses to Leishmania infection as well as novel approaches to vaccination. She was Chair of the writing committee for the IDSA-ASTMH clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis published in 2016. She has published multiple articles and chapters on clinical aspects of leishmaniasis.
