Ramiro L. Gutierrez, MD, MPH, FIDSA, FACP is and Active Duty Navy physician and researcher. He currently serves as Department Head at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring Maryland where he is responsible for medical R&D efforts aimed at development of countermeasures against infectious disease threats of concern to military personnel when engaged in training, combat and humanitarian missions worldwide. He has served in roles as a submarine medical officer, diving medical officer, general internist, and infectious diseases clinician at various assignments throughout the continental United States, overseas, as well as on board hospital ships, submarines and field settings. He holds clinical priviledges at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he is an Adjunct Faculty member for the National Capital Consortium Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program based at Walter Reed, as well an appointment as Associate Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Gutierrez has been a Principal or Associate Investigator on multiple FDA-regulated clinical trials across the spectrum of development to include candidate vaccines aimed against shigellosis, ETEC, norovirus, campylobacteriosis, Ebola and SARS-CoV-2.
