Dr. Karen Tashima is Director of Clinical Trials at the Immunology Center, The Miriam Hospital in Providence RI. She is a Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Her research focus is on the development of HIV and HCV therapies and improvements in treatments for HIV infected persons. The Miriam Hospital Clinical Trials Unit was an ACTG funded site for 20 years. During the COVID19 pandemic, Dr. Tashima has been the site investigator for the inpatient remdesivir trials and CoVPN COVID19 preventive vaccine trials. She was appointed to the RI Governor's COVID-19 Vaccine Sub-Committee and assisted with the vaccine roll-out efforts in her hospital system. She promotes research and vaccine uptake by giving interviews to local news and to community groups whenever possible.
