Thao Masters is a postdoctoral scientist in the Infectious Diseases Laboratory at Mayo Clinic. Her current projects aim to improve detection of bacterial biofilm-related infections in arthroplasty patients, characterize microbial functional activities including antibiotic resistance and pathogenesis, and identify host biomarkers in response to the infection, using metatranscriptomic sequencing and analysis. She has 2 publications and 2 in-review manuscripts from her current work. She is also a recipient of NIH T32 Musculoskeletal Training Grant and translational research grant from the Mayo Clinic Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. She is highly skilled in Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics.
Thao received her PhD in Molecular Microbiology at Northern Illinois University where she extensively studied molecular mechanisms Neisseria gonorrhoeae utilize to initiate infection and evade host immune response. She worked at Oxford University Clinical Research Unit for 3 years and conducted multiple epidemiologic and molecular studies on bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance which resulted in multiple publications.
Thao works great in team settings as shown by progress and contributions to her collaborative works with clinicians, clinical microbiologists, bioinformaticians, scientists, and colleagues. She enjoys learning new things, solving problems that bring benefits to health care, improving
