Dr. Jose Alexander earned his medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela, specializing as a Medical & Public Health Microbiologist. He is board-certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) and is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Microbiologists. Furthermore, he is recognized as a Specialist in Microbiology and Molecular Biology by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Dr. Alexander holds board certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) as well as the American Council for Medical Affairs' (ACMA) Board-Certified Medical Affairs Specialist designation. He currently serves as the Clinical & Technical Director of the Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology Laboratories at AdventHealth Orlando.
Some of Dr. Alexander’s achievements include implementing comprehensive antimicrobial resistance (AMR) protocols, from screening and confirmation to reporting, in addition to establishing clear algorithmic definitions for resistance mechanisms. He has implemented and established a rapid, extraction-free whole genome sequencing protocol for routine identification of mycobacteria and bacteria in AdventHealth. Moreover, he has evaluated the impact of multivariable laboratory data, which has led to the optimization of laboratory procedures and the establishment of new protocols.
At present, Dr. Alexander's areas of focus include antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), and the optimization of AI-driven data analysis.
