Dr. Evans is the Director of the Veterans Health Administration MRSA/MDRO Program and an Infectious Diseases physician. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Infectious Diseases at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine and is based at the Lexington VAMC. He earned his medical degree from The University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1976, and was a Fellow in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He served 21 years in the USAF Medical Corps, retiring in 1993. He then became the hospital epidemiologist at the University of Kentucky Medical Center from 1993 until 2003 after which he assumed the same role at the Lexington VAMC until 2003. He became the Associate Director of the VHA MRSA Prevention Initiative in 2003 and Director of the Program in 2004. His interests include infection control and antibiotic resistance.
