Dr. Pedro Luis Gonzalez completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Puerto Rico, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Microbiology. He then earned a Master’s degree in Medical Technology, specializing in Bacteriology and Blood Banking. In 2004 he earned a Doctorate of Medicine from Ponce School of Medicine.
Dr. Gonzalez completed his post-graduate Internal Medicine internship and residency in New York City at the prestigious Mount Sinai School of Medicine Hospital System where he was honored as Chief Resident of Mount Sinai’s Internal Medicine program. Also while at Mount Sinai, Dr. Gonzalez completed a six-month rotation at Good Shepherd Hospital, a Mount Sinai subsidiary, in Swaziland. While in Africa, his work was concentrated on HIV research, prevention and treatment not only at Good Shepherd, but also in rural villages throughout South Africa as well.
After establishing himself as a diversified and contemporary practitioner in the Big Apple Dr. Gonzalez moved to the Big Easy, where he completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at LSU Health Sciences Center, teaching medical students and treating patients throughout metro New Orleans.
Dr. Gonzalez is a board certified physician in both Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He offers a general practice with a focus on HIV care, men’s health issues and travel medicine while maintaining his appointment as Global Head for Infectious Diseases at Allergan plc now Abbvie.
