Dr. Folake Lawal is an Infectious Disease physician. She did her residency training in internal medicine at the University of Maryland Midtown and completed her Infectious disease fellowship at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where she also worked as an Assistant Professor. While at Augusta University, her research focused on the effectiveness of telemedicine in outpatient HIV control. Dr. Lawal is interested in expansion of telehealth services to tackle the HIV epidemic as well as other infectious diseases toward global health security.
Dr. Lawal is the founder of Amal Outreach, a nonprofit organization that engages underserved communities through health education and monitoring to improve primary and preventive health practices. She currently manages the hypertension and diabetes monitoring program that serves 360 people in Lagos Nigeria. She is completing an MPH in health policy and management at University of California, Berkeley in 2021 with plans to use telemedicine to support developing countries and remote communities in improving patient care.
Dr. Lawal is a member of IDSA and she is honored to serve as a member of the Digital Strategy Advisory Group and volunteer on the CDC-IDSA On Call Clinician Program.
