Matthew B. Goetz, MD is Professor of Clinical Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Chief of Infectious Diseases at the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.
Dr. Goetz serves on the National VHA Antimicrobial Stewardship Taskforce, the Medical Advisory Panel to the Pharmacy Benefits Management Group, the HIV Technical Advisory Group, the Infectious Diseases Field Advisory Board, and the COVID-19 Testing Workgroup. He previously served on the FDA Anti-Microbial Drug Advisory Committee.
Dr. Goetz has been an investigator on projects sponsored by the VA, NIH and the CDC that have addressed strategies to improve diagnoses, linkage to care and assessments of long-term outcomes in HIV infected patients. Dr. Goetz has also led multi-site interventional studies to improve inpatient antimicrobial stewardship. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was engaged in local and national VHA programs to address numerous infection control and clinical issues.
Finally, Dr. Goetz is a member of the editorial advisory board of Clinical Infectious Diseases and the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes; and he has over 250 peer-reviewed publications.
