Dr. Barton received her medical degree from the University of Louisville in 2014 and completed residency there in internal medicine and pediatrics in 2018. In 2021, after fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at Norton Children’s and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, she joined the faculty there as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Barton has broad clinical experience in general inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases as well as the care of immunocompromised hosts. She has a special interest in immunization and is the Physician Lead for the Norton Children’s Vaccine Clinic. Her academic interest is in understanding and addressing vaccine hesitancy, and her research centers on developing effective approaches to communication with vaccine hesitant parents and patients. In addition, she has developed a curriculum to train residents in effective communication, which includes the novel use of standardized patients. Dr. Barton is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, and the American Society of Transplantation.
