Kurt B. Stevenson MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine with tenure in the Division of Infectious Diseases at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Division of Epidemiology in the OSU College of Public Health. He is also the Associate Medical Director of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology for the OSU Wexner Medical Center where he serves as the Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
In addition to providing clinical care to patients with infectious diseases in acute care, ambulatory, and telehealth settings, Dr. Stevenson has spent more than thirty years directing infection control and antimicrobial stewardship programs with specific research interests in controlling the development, acquisition, and spread of antimicrobial resistant bacterial pathogens. This research has spanned acute care and long term care settings, rural hospitals, and ambulatory care settings, such as dialysis units. He has served as the Chair of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) Long-Term Care Interest Group and a three-year term as the Secretary of SHEA. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. He finished a five-year term on the CDC Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) in 2009. He has also completed a term in 2014 on the FDA Anti-Invectives Drug Advisory Committee (AIDAC).
A graduate of the University of Utah School of Medicine, Dr. Stevenson completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Iowa. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both specialties. He also completed an MPH at the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine.
