Mahmoud Ghannoum, PhD is a Tenured Professor and Director of the Integrated Microbiome Core and Center for Medical Mycology, Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. He received an MSc in Medicinal Chemistry and PhD in Microbial Physiology from University of Technology in England, as well as an MBA from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Ghannoum is a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, and the European Confederation of Medical Mycology, and is a Past President of the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas. He is also a fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America. He coined the term "Mycobiome" and was awarded the Freedom to Discover Award from Bristol-Myers Squibb for his pioneering work on microbial biofilms.
Dr. Ghannoum is now among the top 1% of most cited scientists in the world, and top 0.1 percent of cited microbiologists (143 out of 134,369 microbiologists).
