Dr. Thompson is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine with a joint appointment in the Departments of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Thompson specializes in the care of patients with invasive fungal infections and has research interest in fungal diagnostics and host immunogenetics. His current research focuses on the host-pathogen interaction of humans and both Coccidioides spp. (the agent of “Valley Fever”), and Cryptococcus spp.
Dr. Thompson has served on the IDSA Journal Club which is a committee comprised of 12 panelists who select key papers for review and compose a summary of important articles that is published in the internationally disseminated monthly IDSA News. Additionally, he is a member of the Coccidioidomycosis Study Group Planning Committee, and as Co-chair of the Mycoses Study Group - a committee responsible for the development of content and dissemination of materials to practitioners across the United States, planning of the mycology content at our yearly meetings (IDSA and ICAAC), and the design of clinical trials.
