Mariawy Riollano-Cruz, MD, is a third-year fellow at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. She began her undergraduate training at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology and obtained her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. She continued her studies in the field of pediatrics, training at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. During her fellowship, her research has focused on understanding the clinical characteristics and genomics of Staphylococcus aureus transmissions in the neonatal population. Furthermore, she has expanded her interest in antibiotic stewardship, particularly in the use of Vancomycin for complicated pneumonia. She genuinely enjoys being a clinician, educator, and thrives in taking care of patients. In terms of the future, she envisions a career in which she can combine her scholarly interests in infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship with patient care and teaching. Outside of the hospital, Mariawy enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and trying new foods.
