Stephen Gurley is a 4th year MD/MPH candidate at the Emory University School of Medicine and the Emory Rollins School of Public Health. Origially from Virginia, Stephen earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia before moving to Atlanta for medical school. While in medical school, Stephen has developed a passion for health equity and advocacy, eventually becoming President of the non-profit Health Students Taking Action Together, uniting health professional students from across Georgia to take action to improve the health of all Georgians through advocacy, service, and activism. He also coordinates a student-run free clinic in Clarkston, Georgia for a primarily recent-immigrant and refugee population in suburban Atlanta. Stephen's research interests include global epidemiology of HIV, HIV-related health disparities, and recent-immigrant and refugee health. Stephen will be applying to residency programs in Internal Medicine and aspires to pursue a career as an Infectious Disease specialist.
