Suji Mathew MS, MD: Infectious Disease consultant at Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA)-Atlanta
I am the Lead Physician for Antibiotic stewardship Program (ASP) for the CTCA enterprise as well as for the local IP and ASP charter. I also serve on the enterprise COVID leadership taskforce.
My focus is on Infections in the immunocompromised, and recognizing challenges in diagnosing and treating sepsis in these patients. I am especially interested in rapid diagnostic PCR based tests to optimize treatment outcomes in complicated cancer patients.
I have always seen myself as a 'warrior' more than a 'steward' when it comes to antibiotic prescribing practices. I have done numerous talks at hospitals and local communities focusing on the emergence of multi-drug resistant infections and necessity to institute robust antibiotic stewardship policies to mitigate the impact of needless antibiotic usage and thereby stem the tide of rising C diff infections. Other areas of focus: HIV, parasitic infections, and Hepatitis.
