Heather Wells is a viral bioinformatics consultant with Biotia, Inc. She holds an MPH in Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases from Yale School of Public Health and is a PhD candidate at Columbia University in the department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology. Her primary area of study is viral evolution, and she also has broad interests in disease emergence, wildlife surveillance, and comparative genomics. Her current focus of study involves identifying genetic and ecological drivers of recombination of coronaviruses in bats.
