Athena P. Kourtis, MD, PhD, MPH
Dr Athena Kourtis is board-certified in pediatrics and in pediatric infectious diseases. She completed her MD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Athens, Greece, a PhD in Immunology from the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France, and a Master’s in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She currently serves as the Branch Chief for the Epidemiology Branch, Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is also a Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Kourtis is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and has served in various committees of these associations. She has published over 200 peer-reviewed publications, editorials and book chapters, as well as two books. She has led several domestic and international clinical trials on child and adolescent health.
