Melanie Martinsen is a second-year Research Associate in the Bhattacharyya Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Her current research centers on developing rapid bacterial and fungal diagnostics with the goal of reducing reliance on empiric antimicrobials. She graduated summa cum laude from Boston University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. She is currently applying to MD/PhD programs with a research focus in microbiology and immunology. Through her studies, she hopes to address health disparities, investigate host-pathogen interactions, and continue combating antimicrobial resistance. In her free time, she enjoys doing yoga and playing with her quarantine cat!
