Tamara Pilishvili, PhD, MPH, is an Epidemiologist and lead for Pneumococcal Disease and Vaccine Policy at the Respiratory Diseases Branch, National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases, CDC. Her research focused on vaccine preventable diseases. She has led studies evaluating effectiveness of pneumococcal and Hib conjugate vaccines, provided technical expertise to developing countries to estiablish surveillance systems and document the impact and effectiveness of vaccines to inform policy decisions. She served as the CDC lead for the Pneumococcal Vaccines Working Group of the U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices tasked with developing recommendations for the use of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in adults and children. She also serves as a subject matter expert on various work groups, including WHO SAGE pneumococcal work group, providing technical input for developing global pneumococcal vaccine policy.
