Josh Schaffzin is the Director of Infection Prevention Control and an Assistant Professor of Infectious Diseases at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, Josh immigrated to the Midwest when he attended college in St Louis, the MD-PhD program at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and completed a categorical pediatric residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Following 5 years at the New York State Department of Health first as a CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service officer and then a public health physician, Josh returned to Cincinnati Children’s in 2010, first as a pediatric hospitalist, then as an infectious diseases physician. A long time SHEA member, Josh is on the Pediatric Leadership Council Executive Board, and has served on the Guidelines Committee since 2015, where he had the opportunity to be part of the writing group for the recent Guidelines for Infection Control in the Anesthesia Work Area. Josh’s research interests include Surgical Site Infection prevention, Improvement Science, and development of Behavioral and Systems-based Infection Prevention methods.
