Dr. Julia Sammons is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Perelman School of Medicine and attending physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Dr. Sammons has served as Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of the Department of Infection Prevention and Control at CHOP until 2021 when she took on an expanded role as AVP of a newly expanded Office of Preparedness, Prevention and Response. Dr. Sammons graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completed both her pediatric residency and fellowship training in infectious diseases at CHOP. She also holds a Master’s of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (MSCE) degree from the Perelman School of Medicine.
Dr. Sammons’ scholarly interests include the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, particularly healthcare-associated viral infections, how to optimize implementation of quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing preventable harm in hospitalized children, as well as how to improve systems preparedness to respond to emerging public health threats.
