Dr. Waleed Javaid, in his role as a Hospital Epidemiologist and Director of Infection Prevention and Control, works to reduce healthcare-associated infections with a focus on patient safety. He believes that infection prevention is everyone’s responsibility. His major interest is to engage the whole team, from frontline staff to senior leadership, to collaboratively reduce patient harm, infections and enhance patient safety throughout the organization. As a leader in infection prevention, Waleed has more than a decade of experience working with large and small hospitals, organizations and networks. He has successfully influenced health care systems by improving organizational safety culture. He has integrated infection control and stewardship principles with evidence-based clinical practice guidelines resulting in sustainable enhanced outcomes. Hospitals, under his leadership, have achieved a nationally recognized significant decrease in hospital-acquired infections. He has led teams through many successful regulatory reviews by agencies like Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Joint Commission (JC), and State Health Department. Dr. Javaid is a national expert and educator in infection control. He continues to participate in many national organizations and committees. He is a member of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) guidelines and education committees, Infectious disease society of America (IDSA) education committee, Council for Outbreak Response: HAI and Antibiotic resistance (CORHA), Chair of the Podcast Committee for SHEA and Lead of the Workgroup on Investigation and Control for CORHA. He is also a member of the Advisory Panel NYS Task Force for the CMS Quality Improvement Initiative. He participated and contributed to the development of SHEA CDC/SHEA Outbreak Response Training Program and the Online ID Fellows Course: Primer on Healthcare Epidemiology, Infection Control & Antimicrobial Stewardship. He has given talks on a wide range of infection control, infectious diseases, and leadership topics in international, national, and local meetings. He also has written and co-authored several publications on antimicrobial resistance, infectious diseases, and is a regular guest expert in the media. Dr. Javaid is Board Certified in Infectious Disease and has participated in The SHEA-CDC Training course in Healthcare Epidemiology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America, and the Society of Health Care Epidemiology of America.
