Dr. Powers-Fletcher is an Associate Professor with a unique combination of foundational, translational, and clinical science training. She completed her doctorate in pathobiology and molecular medicine, with a specific focus on invasive fungal infections, followed by a clinical fellowship in medical and public health laboratory microbiology. Following fellowship training and board-certification as a clinical microbiologist, she served as the technical director of a hospital clinical microbiology laboratory for three years. She has since established a research program focused on improving healthcare outcomes associated with infectious diseases. Specifically, she uses decision science and innovative digital techniques to determine the impact of laboratory practices on health outcomes; identify and remove the barriers to appropriate ordering and interpretation of infectious disease diagnostic tests; and implement interventions to address diagnostic stewardship challenges and improve healthcare outcomes.
