Disclosure: I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
Cherie Faith L. Monsalud, MPH, CIC, is an Infection Control Practitioner for NorthShore University HealthSystem. Cherie Faith began her public health career working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as the Lead Public Health Advisor for the Chicago Quarantine Station during the Western Africa Ebola virus epidemic. She has transitioned to a career in hospital infection prevention and control, applying her CDC experience to the 2015 – 2016 Zika virus epidemic, as well as the current COVID-19 pandemic. Her current work at NorthShore has a strong focus on prevention of hospital acquired infections (HAI), particularly catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).
Cherie Faith is responsible for the creation and implementation of new, innovative, best practices related to CAUTI prevention. Her role has recently expanded to include supporting ambulatory services and medical group practices for NorthShore. Her research interests include antimicrobial and diagnostic stewardship, epidemiology, and using public health-based interventions to prevent infectious disease transmission.
Cherie Faith’s passion for public health is rooted in her childhood experiences growing up in rural Mindanao, Philippines. After emigrating from the Philippines, she saw public health as an opportunity to positively impact communities like her own. In graduate school, she gave back to the community by leading community outreach programs to educate citizens of Grenada on mosquito-borne diseases, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease. Through these programs she discovered an affinity for mentorship, which she continues to pursue by mentoring colleagues interested in public
health and infection control.
During her limited free time outside of work, Cherie Faith enjoys singing and visual arts, particularly drawing nature, landscapes, and animals with pastels and charcoals. She is thankful for her loving husband and family, who have helped support her while pursuing her professional goals.
