Dr. Mathew completed her medical school, MD with honors, from Tver State Medical Academy, Russia and her residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine from Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, NY. She subsequently pursued her Infectious Diseases (ID) fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, Boston, and also completed her MPH through Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Mathew worked with Partners in Health in the field of TB, HIV and alcohol use disorders (AUD) internationally, in Tomsk, Siberia, Russia. Subsequently, she continued contributing to the field of TB nationally and internationally. She presented and worked as session coordinator in international meetings on TB at IUATLD. She served as a member of Advisory Committee for Elimination of TB, Connecticut Department of Public Health and coauthored 2019 NTCA recommendations for TB screening in US Healthcare Personnel.
Dr. Mathew volunteered with IDSA for 6 years on the Public Health committee, and represented IDSA at Capitol Hill briefings on Immunizations. She is a member of the IDSA Inclusion, Diversity, Access and Equity task Force. Dr. Mathew is a member of The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and volunteers on SHEA Community Based Healthcare Epidemiologists Task Force and is the Vice- Chair of the Public Policy and Government Affairs Committee. Dr. Mathew is adjunct visiting faculty, in Department of Microbiology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. In 2019, Dr. Mathew gave a talk on AMR and infection prevention at the American College of Physicians- India Chapter.
Recently Dr. Mathew spearheaded the COVID 19 response of her hospital/ system during the surge in Detroit. She collaborates with professionals in India providing guidance on COVID19.
Dr. Mathew’s research interests are in the fields of TB / HIV, alcohol use disorders, prevention of HAI, AMR, uptake of adult immunizations and addressing COVID19 pandemic.
Dr. Mathew is also active on social media on her twitter handle. Dr. Mathew also has been interviewed on television, radio and print media on topics related to Influenza, measles outbreaks and more recently on COVID-19.
