Shelby Kolo, PharmD is a second year Pharmacist Fellow in the Veteran's Affairs (VA) Post-Doctoral Quality Scholars Fellowship at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina where she is developing expertise in healthcare quality improvement methodology. She is passionate about medication safety, healthcare quality improvement, and antimicrobial stewardship, especially as these pertain to medication prescribing practices. Currently, she is leading a quality improvement initiative to optimize antibiotic prescribing for acute respiratory infections across six primary care clinics. Dr. Kolo's other recently completed or ongoing work includes: national workgroup collaboration to standardize metrics used to assess antimicrobial stewardship clinical pharmacy specialists, assisting with facility-level COVID-19 response, quality assurance of oral antibiotic prescribing practices for gram-negative blood stream infections, quality assurance of immunization documentation practices, and adverse event/medication error reviews to identify opportunities for system improvements.
