Nityasri Sankar, BA, OMS-III; Maine Medical Center and University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine
Nityasri is a third-year medical student at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. During her time in medical school, she has developed interests in addiction medicine, infectious diseases, and harm reduction. She has volunteered at the Needle Exchange Program in Portland and is passionate about expanding education about safe injection practices and harm reduction services. She has been working with Dr. Kinna Thakarar on a research project exploring infectious complications of high-risk injection practices, and harm reduction service utilization in amongst people who inject drugs in Maine.
Prior to medical school, she received her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Global Health from Washington University in St. Louis. She is currently completing her clinical rotations at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, NH. As part of her clinical experience, she is involved with patient care at the Recovery Clinic in Gilford, NH. Nityasri hopes to continue learning about and contributing to the fields of Infectious Diseases and Addiction medicine as a future healthcare provider
