Dr Tristan Clark is an Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant in adult Infectious Diseases, at the University of Southampton and University Hospitals Southampton NHS trust. His research is focussed on clinical trials of vaccines, antivirals and rapid diagnostics for respiratory viruses and he was part of a group that performed one of the first pandemic H1N1 influenza vaccine trials in 2009. He currently holds an NIHR post-doctoral fellowship to evaluate the clinical impact and cost effectiveness of molecular point-of-care tests for respiratory viruses including influenza. He has been at the forefront of the response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic having performed a clinical trial of point-of-care testing for COVID-19 during the first wave and subsequently creating the first hospital-based routine point-of-care testing service in the UK. He is currently seconded to the UK Department of Health and Social Care where he is advising them on the national roll out of point-of-care testing for SARS-CoV-2 across the NHS.
