Internal Medicine Resident

I was born in Mexico City, where I graduated from medical school in 2016. During high school, I read the book ‘Microbe Hunters’ by Paul de Kruif, which was a significant influence for me to choose a career in medicine. I also believe it planted the seed of my interest in infectious diseases. In 2014, I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Robert Schooley, current Editor-In-Chief of The Journal of Infectious Diseases, at the University of California, San Diego, and fell in love with ID. I dedicated my last year of medical school to research about community-acquired pneumonia and influenza within the Mexican Emerging Infectious Disease Clinical Research Network (La Red), an NIH-funded research and surveillance group created in response to the outbreak of the H1N1 pandemic in 2009. In 2019 I moved to Evanston, Illinois, to start my internal medicine training. I am currently a second-year medicine resident at AMITA Health Saint Francis Hospital, a community hospital that serves the northern Chicago metropolitan area population. My academic interests include emerging disease, outbreak response, antibiotic resistance, and antibiotic stewardship.
