Dr. Caserta is a Professor of Pediatrics in Infectious Diseases at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and an attending physician at the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester, New York. She graduated from the State University of New York School of Medicine and Dentistry in Buffalo New York and then completed her internship and residency training in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She re-located to Rochester where she completed fellowship training under the mentorship of Caroline Breese Hall, MD. Dr. Caserta joined the faculty at the URMC in 1991. Her early research focused on identifying the clinical characteristics and investigating the epidemiology and pathogenesis of human herpesvirus-6 and 7 infections in children. More recently, Dr. Caserta’s research has focused on viral respiratory disease and she was the Pediatric Clinical Core Director of the NIH-funded Respiratory Pathogens Research Center at the University of Rochester. Current areas of investigation involve identifying factors associated with severe RSV disease in previously healthy infants and subsequent recurrent wheezing. Dr. Caserta is a member of the AAP, a fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and the Pediatric ID society. Dr. Caserta is also a member of the Committee on Infectious Diseases of the AAP.
