Postdoctoral Fellow in Infectious Diseases

Dr. Ayesha Khan is a postdoctoral fellow in Infectious Diseases at at UTHealth in the lab of Dr. Cesar Arias and a grassroots activist working to bridge medicine and social justice. She obtained her Bachelor’s in Microbiology and Global Studies, specializing in Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles and completed her PhD in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at UTHealth. Her Ph.D. work focuses on studying molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in multidrug-resistant enterococci. In addition to her basic science research, Dr. Khan specializes in the development of innovative molecular and genomics-based diagnostics for the detection of multidrug-resistant organisms for personalized medicine and optimal patient therapy. Dr. Khan is the Founder and President of the American Society for Microbiology, Texas Medical Center Chapter.
