Internal Medicine Resident

Alisse Hannaford is second year categorical Internal Medicine resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, she was exposed to the HIV epidemic in high school while studying abroad in South Africa. She majored in Biology and Global Health at Georgetown University and after graduating worked on various global health projects, including improving access to medications at a rural HIV and malaria clinic in Uganda and researching for a Women and Girls empowerment project at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Alisse completed medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she researched HIV prevention with a focus on understanding the challenges associated with PrEP uptake. She then spent a year in rural South Africa completing a Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellowship working on expanding access to PrEP and decreasing barriers that cause HIV positive individuals to become lost to care. After residency, Alisse plans to complete an Infectious Diseases fellowship with a focus on improving global HIV outcomes.
