Dr. Matthew Burke is a Cognitive Neurologist and Assistant Professor at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center and the University of Toronto. He is the Director of Sunnybrook’s Traumatic Brain Injury Program and also leads a neuropsychiatry clinic for patients with functional neurological disorders. Dr. Burke completed medical school and his neurology residency at the University of Toronto and then pursued a fellowship in Cognitive Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Burke’s research focuses on investigating the complex brain disorders at the interface between neurology and psychiatry. This includes applying novel techniques such as brain network mapping and non-invasive neuromodulation to develop new management strategies for these conditions. His efforts to date have resulted in multiple peer-reviewed publications, educational resources, media attention on platforms such as the Globe and Mail, CNN and the BBC, and was the recipient of the American Neuropsychiatric Association's 2019 Young Investigator Award. Finally, his recent article, “It’s All in Your Head”: Medicine’s Silent Epidemic was recognized by the JAMA Network as JAMA Neurology’s Most Talked About Article of the Year in 2019.
