O1065 Oct.4: 4:28pm - Enhancing a Transport Team Case Review Process to Positively Impact Team Satisfaction, Professional Learning and Multidisciplinary Collaboration

Background
Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conferences offer valuable opportunities for healthcare teams to improve patient care and provide professional learning. Unlike typical case reviews, M&M participants analyze cases with adverse outcomes and identify contributing factors. This audit and peer review process allows for improved professional development and patient safety.

The Transport Team of a large pediatric acute care teaching hospital wanted to enhance the current case review process by incorporating elements of the M&M structure, with the aim of positively impacting team satisfaction, professional development and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Methodology
The Plan-Do-Study-Act Model for Improvement was used to guide this quality improvement initiative. The literature was searched to identify a Morbidity and Mortality Model that could be applied to the current team case review process. The Ottawa M&M Model (OM3) was chosen based on the principles of appropriate case selection, structured case analysis and inter-professional and multidisciplinary involvement.
• A Transport Team Case Review Timeline was created to inform the multidisciplinary team of deadlines leading up the team’s bi-monthly business and education meeting- Transport Team Core Day
• Cases for review are now chosen based on quality review of GAMUT and Transport Team metrics or by team member or physician request
• A PowerPoint presentation template was created to structure the case analysis
• Critical Care Fellows are assigned by the team Medical Director to partner with transport team members in completing the review process
• Anonymous team member surveys are conducted every 4-6 months to measure team satisfaction and perceived learning

Discussion
The Transport Team Case Review process continues to evolve based on feedback from the multidisciplinary participants.
• Once fully implemented, the timeline has been successful in holding participants accountable to due dates for presentation completion
• The presentation template promotes fewer interruptions during review, allowing for important points to be covered and keeps the review on track, but has also been described as time consuming to prepare and an uncomfortable process for team members unfamiliar with PowerPoint
• The multidisciplinary involvement encourages a more thorough discussion about the most challenging transports with a multidisciplinary team, allows for education to be done face to face between team and medical colleagues regarding challenging situations, fosters team building between team members and the physicians we work with and creates a safe, open, and respectful atmosphere for discussion and learning

Conclusion
The Transport Team Core Day Case Review process sits at the intersection of quality improvement, team education, and peer review activities. It does not exist without a robust quality reporting and peer review mechanism which brings cases forward. Survey feedback on the enhanced case review process has shown to have positively impacted team satisfaction, professional development and multidisciplinary collaboration.
