P0278 - Validation of the Oxford Ankle Foot Questionnaire among Nepalese Children

Introduction: Limited validated tools exist for measuring Quality of Life (QoL) among children with foot and ankle conditions especially for Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC) such as Nepal. We aim Nepalese translation of Oxford Ankle Foot Questionnaire (OAFQ) – a patient-reported outcome measure for 5-16 years old by performing cross-cultural adaptation and evaluating its psychometric properties

Method: The OAFQ was translated into Nepali through seven steps: Forward translation, forward translation reconciliation, back translation, back translation review, pilot testing, pilot testing review and proofreading. The translation was done via a focus group of orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, community-based research staff, and patients with their families. Survey was given twice at 2-weeks interval to 64 children with ankle/foot deformity at a Nepalese hospital. Four domains from OxAFQ were measured – physical activity, school and play, emotional and footwear usage. Psychometric properties were examined for internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) and for construct validity (Exploratory factor analysis with rotated component matrix).

Results: Most participants were females (n =34, 53%). Average age was 13 years (6- 18 years). Our results showed that the reliability and validity statistics of the OxAFQ constructs were very good. Cronbach Alpha for items ranged from 0.793-0.897. Factor analysis results suggested reasonable factorability.

Conclusion: This study is the first validation of OAFQ in Nepali and it will be a valuable research tool in a clinical setting to assess the QoL among foot/ankle conditions in children. Translated version will be used to report 10-year evaluation on patients with foot/ankle conditions treated with Ponseti Method.
