Peace Corps Response: Advancing Health Professionals Program

Advancing Health Professionals (AHP) is a Peace Corps Response program which seeks to improve health outcomes on a societal level through the provision of high-level, specialized assignments that enhance the quality of health care. According to the United Nations (UN), less than half of the global population is covered by essential health services. AHP is recruiting medical and health professionals to help bridge this gap by sharing their skills and knowledge for a 12-month Volunteer assignment. Volunteers are requested by host institutions in countries where Peace Corps is active.

Through non-clinical interventions, Volunteers in the AHP program teach in classroom-based settings alongside their in-country counterparts. Together, they focus on the needs of the whole countries, entire healthcare systems, and larger partner organizations. The AHP program also supports professionals currently involved in the delivery of healthcare. Volunteers focusing on health systems apply their administrative and organizational skills to promote efficiency and resiliency in care delivery.

AHP seeks skilled volunteers for non-clinical assignments with a background in:
• Medicine
• Nursing
• Pharmacy
• Mental health
• Pre-clinical education
• Health care administration
• Health care service delivery
• Midwifery

The AHP program has launched in 5 countries: Eswatini, Liberia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda. In the future, it may be expanded to other Peace Corps Response posts.
