To improve the quality of care for newborns, the American Academy of Pediatrics, in collaboration with many global partners, developed Helping Babies Survive (HBS). HBS is a suite of evidence-based, hands-on training programs designed to reduce neonatal mortality and morbidity.
Included in this suite of programs: Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), Essential Care for Every Baby (ECEB), Essential Care for Small Babies (ECSB), & Improving care for Mothers and Babies: A guide for improvement teams.
NEW 2nd Edition of HBB has scientific updates to harmonize with 2015 ILCOR Consensus on Science with Treatment Recommendations and the 2012 WHO Basic Newborn Resuscitation Guidelines.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Helping Babies Breathe, which has become one of the AAP's most visible and widely recognized global health initiatives. Join the celebration of the 10th anniversary of HBB on Monday, October 5th from 8:00AM-12:00PM CT, Session H4000: Section on Global Health and Helping Babies Survive.
ENC Now! is a rapid digital learning response to the urgent need for continuing professional education on Helping Babies Survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to maintain high-quality essential services around birth, current providers need refresher training and new providers need access to essential knowledge and skills even while in-person group learning is disrupted. The American Academy of Pediatrics and Laerdal Global Health are offering updated digital learning tools that enable remote facilitation, building on the educational methods of HBS, and harmonize further with WHO recommendations.
