Participants in this “flash session” will explore the relationship between theoretical, epistemological, and methodological issues in youth studies. We will interrogate a set of interlocking questions: how are childhood and youth changing, empirically? How have our understandings of these experiences changed, conceptually? What new methodological approaches have been developed or need to be developed in order to generate insights regarding childhood and youth? We seek to theorize and historicize understandings even as we situate childhood and youth studies within contemporary social, cultural, and global contexts. Each participant will prepare a 3- minute video to share in advance via a website called "Anthropology and Education"; we will send an invitation to watch the videos (and contribute either original material via video or commentary) via the CAE listserv. During the actual time, we will stream several of the videos before dividing those who come to the panel into groups of 5 to discuss the key questions posed above. Participants will generate additional questions, which will be documented on the shared website.
